Mesocosms are small enclosed experimental areas that are set up as ecological experiments. In this closed ecosystem all the biotic and abiotic factors necessary are included such as water, soil and living organisms such as plants and bacterias. The whole purpose of this is that the metabolic reactions and biological activities that occur from the plants put within will allow life to continue within the mesocosm, allowing an ecosystem to live!
