Despite common stereotype of cats liking milk, cats are unable to digest large amounts of lactose. However there are ways to keep your cat satisfied by turning your milk into "cat milk". Milk can be treated using a lactase enzyme as it catalyses the hydrolysis of lactose to glucose and galactose (both these sugars are more easily digested). This will turn the milk suitable for both cats and lactose intolerant humans. Contrary to popular belief, a huge amount of the population becomes lactose intolerant in their adult life, it is estimated 75% of the world is lactose intolerant. This is how you turn your milk into suitable milk for lactose intolerant beings:
1) Mix 2cm3 of lactase enzyme with 8cm3 of 2% sodium alginate solution.
2) Add the alginate/enzyme mixture to 1.5% calcium chloride solution drop at a time.
3) beads will form and allow them to set for a few minutes
4)Use a tea strainer to separate the beads from the calcium chloride solution
5)Pack the beads into a column made from a syringe barrel
6) Pour ordinary mild (containing lactose sugar) into the top of the column
7) Lactose sugar is split by the trapped enzyme thus glucose and galactose are formed
8) milk leaving column contains easy-to-digest sugars (glucose and galactose)
You may have to repeat the last 3 steps a few times in order to get completely lactose free-milk
9) Detest glucose with a glucose test strip.
